30" x 22" Original Watercolor on Strathmore 500 Paper
Inspiration for "The Sketch" By Pat Kochan
I began “Best Serving” on Strathmore 500 paper, which is very thin watercolor paper but not very forgiving or hardy. I was not happy with the painting so I reworked it and isolated and saved the best shapes to convey my intention. My intention was to present beautiful grays both warm and cool to show off the beautiful color. I was happy with the outcome. It struck me as a serving of beautiful color, so named. Discretely, I added some symbols amid the shapes. I work on yupo paper a lot, so this paper was challenging opposite of yupo. It is not forgiving and the paint soaks into the paper.

30" x 30" Original Watercolor and Acrylic on Watercolor Paper
Inspiration and Process
“Looking In’ was designed from a value sketch transferred onto watercolor paper.Watercolor and acrylic were used. The repeat of the circle in all sizes was the objective with one large rectangle in upper center. Most of my painting have a rectangle or circle that looks back deep into the paper, but this rectangle stops and there are shapes on top of it coming forward. In this painting most all shapes appear on the surface and so not go deep into the painting as I usually do. The repetition of shapes was my goal.
